Nervous About Getting a Reading? Here’s What to Expect
Sep 23, 2026
Have you ever wanted to book an intuitive reading but found yourself hesitating?
Maybe you’re curious about receiving a reading, but there’s also that little bit of worry in the back of your mind.
What if they can read my mind? What if something comes through that I don’t want to hear? What if they tell me something bad is going to happen?
These are some of the questions and fears people can have when they don’t know what to expect from an intuitive reading.
In this episode of Divine Dialogues: Intuitives Unveiled, we talk about some of the common fears and misconceptions surrounding intuitive readings, angel card readings and spiritual mediumship. We also share how we each approach readings and why understanding the process can help take some of the fear out of the unknown.
What Happens During an Intuitive Reading?
One of the first things we want people to understand is that every intuitive works differently.
We each have our own belief systems, intuitive abilities and ways of connecting. There isn’t just one right way to receive Divine guidance.
For us, a reading is about receiving information and guidance that can support you on your journey. That connection may include guardian angels, archangels, your Divine team or loved ones who have crossed over and are in the White Light.
A reading isn’t about someone knowing everything about you. It’s about allowing the guidance that is meant for you at that moment to come forward.
Can an Intuitive Read Your Mind?
This is one of the biggest worries people can have before a reading.
Are we going to know everything you’re thinking?
No!
When you sit down with us for a reading, we aren’t listening to every thought going through your head or trying to discover your secrets.
Our intention is to connect with the guidance that is for your highest good.
Sometimes the information that comes through may validate something you already know. Sometimes it may help you see a situation from a different perspective. Other times, it may bring attention to a worry, fear or block that has been holding you back.
The purpose of a reading is not to create more fear. It is to offer guidance, clarity and understanding.
Will a Reading Tell Me Something Bad?
Another common concern is wondering whether an intuitive reading will predict something frightening or tell you something you don’t want to know.
Our readings are done with love, light and respect for the person sitting in front of us.
We don’t believe readings should be used to predict death or leave someone afraid of what might happen in their future.
Guidance should empower you, not frighten you.
We also believe in free will. You still have choices. You are still responsible for the decisions you make and the direction you choose to take.
An intuitive reading can give you another perspective, but it doesn’t take away your ability to choose your own path.
Can I Get Answers About Someone Else?
This is an important part of understanding how intuitive readings work.
Sometimes we want answers about the people we love. We may want to know what our partner is thinking, what career our child should choose or what someone else should do with their life.
But everyone has their own path.
Rhonda shared an example during our conversation about a client who wanted specific guidance about her son’s career. Instead of being told exactly what he should do, the guidance was to allow him to follow his own heart and make the choices that were right for him.
That message is a great reminder for all of us.
We can support the people we love, but we cannot walk their path for them.
The guidance that comes through during your reading is meant to help you with your journey.
What About Spiritual Mediumship?
Spiritual mediumship can be a little different because the intention is to connect with loved ones who have crossed over.
People sometimes come into a mediumship reading hoping to hear from one specific person. While that loved one may come through, we cannot guarantee or force a particular connection.
We allow the connection to unfold naturally.
Sometimes the person you hoped to hear from comes forward, and sometimes another loved one may connect instead.
For us, mediumship is about being open to the connection and the messages that are meant to come through rather than trying to control exactly how the experience happens.
A Reading Is About Guidance, Not Giving Away Your Power
This is something that is very important to both of us.
An intuitive reading isn’t meant to make you dependent on someone else to tell you what to do.
You have your own intuition. You have free will. You have the ability to make choices for yourself.
Sometimes we already know what feels right, but worry, fear or overthinking can make it difficult to trust what we are feeling.
An intuitive reading may help bring validation, clarity or a different perspective so you can move forward feeling more confident in yourself and your own connection with the Divine.
It’s Okay to Ask Questions
If you’ve been curious about having an intuitive reading, angel card reading or spiritual mediumship session but fear has been holding you back, ask questions.
Ask the intuitive how they work. Ask about their belief system. Ask what you can expect from the reading.
And remember that not every intuitive works the same way.
Your beliefs are personal to you, and finding someone whose approach feels comfortable and aligned with you is important.
We hope this conversation helps take away some of the mystery surrounding intuitive readings and gives you a better understanding of what you may experience.
A reading doesn’t need to be something you fear.
It can be a beautiful opportunity to receive guidance, validation and comfort, while also reminding you to trust yourself, your intuition and your own connection with the Divine.
